Cape Cross Seal Colony

Cape Cross Seal Colony

To nic!

I do not remember ever visiting the Namib without sunshine. Chilly! Cold morning in the desert is a temporary phenomen the same as long unseen rain. About 8 am is already well over 70 degrees (F). That’s a beginning! Temperature will reach 100 degrees (F) today! The road passes through Solitaire, far away (far away = 350 km) to Swakopmund on the Atlantic Coast. Roughly 30 km from Walvis Bay the temperature drops by 23 degrees! Always the case. Rich in plankton cold Benguela Current flows around western coast of Africa from the Cape of Good Hope to Angola. Rich animal world, and lots of ship wrecks … Hot air + cold current = fog. Coastal shelf has always eliminate poor navigators. Landed searching desperately for water … on the desert … Thus, the Skeleton Coast.
